Spravato (esketamine)

Spravato is a prescribed medication used to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) or depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions.

Spravato (esketamine) is a derivative of ketamine and can only be used if prescribed by a Spravato REMS-approved doctor, in a Spravato REMS-approved treatment center and is dispensed by a Spravato REMS-approved specialty pharmacy. Spravato must be taken in conjunction with an oral anti-depressant and is self-administered in the provider's office. Spravato patients are then monitored for two hours and must be driven home by a responsible adult. Spravato patients are advised not to drive or operate machinery for at least 12 hours or until after a restful night’s sleep.

Spravato is a tremendously effective treatment and we are seeing amazing results every day. If you are interested in Spravato treatment or know someone that you think could benefit from Spravato, you can call 860-823-1399 ext. 253 or select option 4, or you can email intake@cbhapc.com. TMS

TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION

Connecticut Behavioral Health Associate's mission is to create a world-class Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment program that sets the standard of excellence in the treatment of chronic depression. We aspire to provide a setting where people receive care that enables them to regain hope and direction in a supportive, caring and compassionate environment.

TMS is a non-invasive method of brain stimulation that treats depression right at the source with a magnetic pulse. The magnetic pulses help to activate the natural function of the brain's neurotransmitters.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  1. TMS is an in-office treatment that requires no anesthesia or sedation
  2. You are awake and alert during the treatment and can resume normal activities immediately afterwards
  3. Each treatment is about 37 minutes
  4. Therapy is 5 days a week for 6-9 weeks
  5. The only known side effect is a minor headache or irritation at the treatment site, which will subside after the first few treatments

TMS is FDA approved for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in clients who have failed to receive satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medication and psychotherapy trials. Below are the following guidelines for insurance coverage;

  • Must be over the age of 18 years old
  • Must have trialed four or more anti-depressants
  •  Must have trialed two or more augmenting agents
  •  Must have trialed psychotherapy
